Hi Pat - I like Canada's wineries very much. I tried a few between Niagara Falls and Toronto. They were a lot more dry than what the Finger Lakes produces, very good reds. Finger Lakes has a lot of fruitier wines, a little too sweet for our tastes but they produce very good Rieslings. Now that we live in Cali we've tried really decent Zinfandels, something I never knew existed, and all the red wines here are 10x better than anything we've tried in upstate NY. Basically, it depends on everyone's personal tastes. When I was 25 I loved sweet, fruity white wines. Now, I enjoy really dry reds.
Thanks for reading my blog! :)

Just read your blog on wine tasting. and enjoyed it very much. I agree, you don't have to be a wine snob to enjoy good wine. I live in one of Canada's Best Wine areas and one of our favorite things to do is go "wine tasting". We enjoyed our Wine Festivals, too. We found that many areas of the US that grow grapes for wines, produce a very fruity type that reminds us too much of fruit punch. I've enjoy many New York wines, but haven't been too happy with the Napa Valley ones, but probably only because my parents and brother by one that tastes like window cleaner. It's a white Zinfandel and I won't say the whole name be it has the word home in it. I'll be reading more of what you write...thanks.

Hey Dumpling! Good and fun advise. We started out sweet and are now mostly totally dry. Seems to be the pattern. Great pictures, too. See you on the wine trail, or at my house.

Hey Hummingbird! You should definitely check some of the wine trails out. Yea I don't like that myth at all, because I think the rule was supposed to mean that red wine went with savory things, or rich meals, and people link that to steak. But there are more savory/rich type meals other than steak...

Hi, I also live in Upstate New York in the Hudson Valley. We have wine trails here, but we haven't gone on them yet. Thanks for providing the mythbuster on red wine goes with red meat and white wine goes with fish and poultry.

Thanks for the comment! I have had the ice wine here, and I have yet to go to the festival they have for it. My husband and I have gone to Niagara county a couple times for wine tasting too, really nice.
