The following pictures were taken on Day 2 of our camping trip.

I’ll skip all the sappy stories and just write captions below the photos. I think we went hiking on this trail at 7am that morning.

The girl in the red shirt we’ll call Medusa E. I made up her code name from a ‘Rap Star Name Generator’ online. I never got a good picture of her, for some reason the girls didn’t throw themselves in front of my camera as much as the guys did. You also won’t find one single picture of me for the entire week either. I like to call it being humble.

But she made the BEST cowboy caviar for camp. I’ll have to do a post on it this week. It’s basically a salsa with beans and it’s highly addictive. Really. After she left camp the next day, I ate it with strips of bacon and tortilla chips. It just made everything taste better.

This is what is known as the Blair Witch cabin. I guess some kids carved some creepy pictures on the logs in the inside of the structure and the name was born.

Chris was lookin extra creepy that day.

 DSC_0079

Then again…maybe he IS creepy lookin?

 DSC_0086

A bunch of us took flashlights and hiked this trail late one night. So this looks really scary when pitch black.

Not really pitch black, since we had flashlights…

I’m not totally sure what kinds of mushrooms these are, but to me, they look like what the Chinese call ‘wood ears’. Can anyone tell me what these are?

Of course, after the vacation when I told my parents I might’ve seen ‘wood ears’, they freaked out and told me NEVER eat anything I find in a forest.

I told them I ate every single mushroom I found in the forest that day, some moss growing on a rock, PLUS all the wild berries I could find. Really.

 DSC_0120

These mushrooms looked cool too. Once again I don’t know what they are, and I’m too lazy to google them. So a big thanks to anyone able to identify them. Not that the knowledge would be advantageous to have in the future. Unless I was lost in the woods for days and had to identify poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms.

Moving on….

DSC_0126

I like this picture.

This is a blurry picture of a bone we found. I don’t know what kind of bone it is. But if I would have to make an educated guess based on various scary movies I’ve seen I would say this is a human bone. I’m probably 99% wrong, but it’s still way cooler than saying it’s an ordinary dinosaur bone. I mean, dinosaur bones aren’t THAT small.

Actually, maybe a dinosaur bone would be cooler. But a human bone would be scarier.

 DSC_0132

This is my husband Chris doing his victory pose. Victory over what, I honestly don’t know.

The following 2 photos accurately describe these 2 brothers. And while they are both wonderful boys, they are COMPETITIVE BOYS!!!

Competititve meaning, everything is and always will be a contest. All in good fun though. At least, I think.

So the competition today is ‘who can stand on a fallen tree contest’. I don’t know who won, because it’s not even a real competition.

I think they just love the camera.

DSC_0133

This is my brother-in-law. When I asked everyone to pick a code name for my blog, he of course picked Superstud. Though I would prefer that he wouldn’t force me to refer to him as Superstud, I did pretty much ask for it.

DSC_0136

After the hike, we all went to the rec center to play Catch that giant flying saucer. Really, that thing was rediculously enormous.

The guy in the blue shirt we’ll call DJ-Spinner. He is Medusa E.’s husband. We wished they could’ve stayed longer at camp, but they had to leave early. Missed out on some fun kickball games kayaking, and goofy victory dances.

 DSC_0139

My Mother-in-Law thought this would be a cool pic. It was the shadows of the leaves over the tarp by the camper. It did make a cool pattern!

DSC_0165

This is a very cliche picture of a stream gently flowing over rocks. VERY cliche. After 9 years I realized I had 50,375 images with the same theme.

 DSC_0193

This is a classic picture of the Letchworth Gorge with Railroad Bridge. You’ll probably notice the same photo perspective on various websites describing the park.

 DSC_0203

I never really understood the point of these binocular thingys at scenic points. I like the overall image of things. I don’t prefer to see mist up close. But that’s just me…

DSC_0206

Do you recognize this image? Check out my Photography Stuff  page. I still like my black and white image alot better.

DSC_0224

I’m going to start creating a theme album called Chris doing things with other things. Very general sounding theme, but endless possibilities. Here, we wanted him to ‘taste the rainbow’. It looks more like he’s eating the rainbow.

DSC_0226

This is The Irish Pirate, Superstud’s fiancee. She comments sometimes on my blog. She wanted to get in on the tasting the rainbow action. But like she asked, how do you look like you’re TASTING the rainbow? It’s more like licking the rainbow!

DSC_0232

This is Chris…with his bottom…and the rainbow….well, you can guess what we were trying to do.

DSC_0233

Chris pinching the rainbow. So cliche. The pinching thing I mean.

DSC_0234

Just another waterfall picture with a giant rainbow. Enough with the rainbows!

DSC_0248

A nice father and sons moment. Awww.

DSC_0259new

These are my wonderful in-laws. We’ll call them B.B. Pain and Sass Katt. The rap star name generator is giving me weird names, I know. It was their wedding anniversary that day!

DSC_0285

Somebody dared Superstud to put his hand into a hole in the tree. And of course he did. I don’t know what they expected him to find though…a chipmunk? Squirrel?

Nothing was in there. Whew!

DSC_0286

Could you have picked a more modest name, Superstud? Augh. I’ll just call you SS from now on.

DSC_0292

Chris is doing things with other things! This time, with the jagged edge of a tree trunk. It looks like it hurts really bad, except you can see the difference in depth of field. Doh!

DSC_0293

This special sign (the number one) was really sentimental to DJ Spinner. It brought tears to our eyes as he read it to us. “One…one….one….”

Inside joke.

DSC_0295

Chris unintentionally (at least, I think unintentionally) started the second Who Can Stand On A Fallen Tree Contest.

I really don’t know the allure of climbing on a fallen tree, but to these guys, it’s pretty damn alluring. I wish I had a good photo of all the girls standing in the background, rolling their eyes.

DSC_0297

After Chris got up there, I took a picture of him standing proudly. Two seconds later, SS and my FIL got up there, and Chris was pushed to the side, behind a tree.

Okay, not really pushed, but he had to share the glory with the other guys, hence the sad pouty lips and slumped shoulders.

I don’t feel sorry for you Chris, but I am laughing at you.

DSC_0298

This was my all-time favorite photo of the week. I love Chris’s expression. And the Loser! sign. As the other guys are smiling proudly. It’s hilarious to me.

Ok, I’m consolidating my remaining pictures of Camp in one last post later. I know the family is enjoying the special Camp section of my blog now. Even though it has nothing to do with food.

  1. These photos are hilarious, especially the rainbow ones. My husband doesn’t like people taking pictures of him. He hasn’t given me permission to post any photos of him on my blog. But, I’ll get him…later.

Looks like you had an awesome time!

  2. I laugh to myself when I look at these pictures too. I don’t like pictures of myself, and if anyone does take a picture of me I delete it if possible. My husband and his family, on the other hand, looovvvveeee getting photographed. And they’re just more photogenic.

  3. 1. Love my code name
    2. everything is better with bacon – excellent idea for adding it to the cowboy caviar

…also, for the cowboy caviar, i did make some changes to the original recipe – added lime juice, used fresh jalapenos. and actually – there are a lot of canned things in the recipe which are probably best subbed for fresh.

great pictures, wish we could have stayed longer!

  4. love the pics – and the first “standing on tree” competition was started because the tree was practically rotted and they were daring each other to see if the tree would hold their weight. Typical.

  5. Medusa – Thanks for the tips! I’ll have to add that to the grocery list…

Irish Pirate – Wow. I forgot about that.

  6. Hi Candy, G’day from Australia lol,
