Tired of making the same old appetizers? I know, really cheesy starting sentence :P But try something simple like these Phyllo wrapped appetizers!
The seasoning packet is courtesy of the people of Amazing Taste! Check out their website, they have a variety of seasonings for every kind of meat and seafood. Their seasoning added that extra ‘Uuummph!’ to my recipe. If you can’t find this seasoning at your local supermarket, you can order it online through their website.
Honestly, after making this recipe, I wasn’t sure how it would come out. After baking these rolls, my husband and I ate about 12 rolls each. We finished all of it, licking our fingers. Trust me, they are savory, mouth-wateringly delicious.
One packet seasons up to 4 pounds of meat. So at 99 cents a packet, you’ve got yourself a lot of meals! Another added bonus is unlike other seasoning packets, it states there is no MSG added. Which helps a lot of people sensitive to MSG products!
Phyllo Wrapped Appetizers with minced meat, onions and tomatoes (makes 24 rolls)
Prep time – 30 minutes
Bake time – 15 minutes
Ingredients:
-
1 lb. ground beef
-
1 tomato, chopped
-
1 onion, chopped
-
pepper
-
1/2 packet of Amazing Taste Beef Seasoning
-
Phyllo dough
-
oil for brushing
Directions:
1) Thaw out phyllo dough according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I left my dough to thaw in the fridge before the work day started.
2) In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned; drain. Add chopped tomato, onion, Amazing Taste Seasoning and sprinkle pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, then lower heat to simmer for another 5 minutes. When done, set aside to cool.
3) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Take phyllo dough out of packaging. You may follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to wrap, or see my illustrated instructions below. After rolling/wrapping, brush top of rolls with olive oil, and bake for 15 minutes or until golden. Serve!

Chop up tomato and onion. Brown ground beef in a skillet, drain.
Add onion, tomato, Amazing Taste seasoning and pepper to taste. Cook for 5 minutes, then lower heat to simmer for another 5 minutes.
Put meat in a bowl and set aside to cool.
You probably don’t have to take out all the dough, since there is enough in the package to feed an army. I took out a few layers at a time.
Cut the dough by dividing into 3 equal sections, the longest length vertically.
Use one section at a time, with 3 overlapping layers at a time.
Place a spoonful of meat on dough as seen above. Wrap twice around, then cut off excess dough for next roll. Brush the top of the roll with olive oil. Place on baking sheet. Repeat.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
Voila! I can’t explain how great these smelled coming out of the oven. I also can’t explain how we ate all of them. I’m just showing you a picture of the whole plate I ate by myself.
Of course, you may have your own techniques on how to wrap these as well. I tried wrapping triangles for my second batch but they came out pretty ugly. I’m sticking with just rolling them for now.
Enjoy!
