At Soupbelly, it’s not all “champagne wishes and caviar dreams” everyday.. Behind the scenes, I too eat crap sometimes, just like everyone else. I woke up this morning, had 4 cups of coffee with soy milk. I know, way too much coffee. I never think it’s enough. And that was all I had all morning and afternoon. Later in the day, I went to the gym and ran for an hour. I still wasn’t hungry. I came home, still wasn’t hungry. Then I had a hankering for ice cream. Which technically was my breakfast, even though it was, like, 5:30pm. So I had a bowl of strawberry and chocolate ice cream with crushed peanut butter cups and topped it with raspberry jelly. Don’t ask me WHY I put jelly on my ice cream. I just felt like it.
After the giant sugar rush I felt like having something greasy, salty, and cheesy. I dumped a whole bag of pizza rolls onto a paper towel lined plate, and nuked it for a couple minutes. I washed it down with a tall glass of rum and coke and some delicious Triscuits.
But that’s not ALL……
I still felt like being a giant pig, so I wanted something that tasted…greasy. I had eggs, processed cheese, rye bread, butter. And ketchup. I wish I went grocery shopping, so I would’ve had bacon. Or ham. And washed it down with another tall glass of rum and coke.
Don’t try this at home.
I just want to say I fall off the ‘sensible eating’ wagon sometimes. And I don’t feel guilty. Most days I eat pretty well, then splurge when I go on vacation, then go back to sensible eating. The balance works for me. Just thought I’d share that with all of you. In case you wonder if I cook everyday for my blog, dead wrong.
If you don’t hear from me for awhile, I’m probably out at KFC eating this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/24/kfcs-double-down-sandwich_n_266848.html
Kidding! My arteries are clogging just looking at that. Plus, I heard that Arby’s is countering the KFC sandwich with 2 whole cows with a wheel of cheese wedged between them. Now that would be interesting to try.
I think I’ll go jogging now…

HAHAHA, that’s awesome! Your egg sandwich looks amazing, by the way, and I too love ketchup on my eggs… I think we all have our guilty pleasures. I eat healthy most of the time and my job is to eat great food, intricate dishes, know ingredients and spices… but I enjoy a bowl of Thai Kitchen ramen noodles for lunch like you wouldn’t believe it…
Great post – we all have days like that… I know I do! I’m with you on not feeling guilty about it… I, too, eat well most of the time, and try not to fret about the times that I don’t.
hehe.. i want that egg sandwich right now!! :D but i prefer healthy dishes most of the time ;)
Chiara – I knew other food bloggers had their vices as well. And for my ramen lunches, I eat the really spicy korean ramen, with an egg cooked into the broth, and cut up hot dogs. But I don’t put ketchup into it. Just more chili sauce if it’s not spicy enough :)
Jen – I guess for every ‘bad’ thing I eat, I counter it with a salad or something the next day. Eating junk only feels good when you’re eating it, not so much afterwards… :P
Nora – Really?! I thought I was grossing everyone out with that picture..
yep. that’s how my appetite runs sometimes.
Where do you find spicy Korean ramen? Or do you make it from scratch?? I make my ramen spicy with a healthy dose of crushed red pepper and chili sauce.
Hummingbird – yep too :)
Chiara – I get it at any asian market. It’s usually the red packages of instant noodles. Since I don’t read Korean that’s usually how I access it’s spicyness…hehe.
I love this post! Sometimes we all have those days. By the way, your egg sandwich looks pretty fab to me! And I never touch an egg without ketchup on it (except if the egg is hard boiled). I’m notorious for “ruining” my slice of quiche this way ;)
Faith – you ‘ruin’ your quiche the way I ‘ruin’ a delicious platter of mac n cheese! :)
