Peaches – “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet???”
Has it been 4 days already?? The days are going by so fast. Of course, according to our cats, it’s been taking forever.
They have formed an alliance against us.
They use to hate each other. I miss the days when Monkey would walk by Peaches and b*tch slap her in the face, then run away giggling. I taught him well. Now, they huddle together in a crate (yes, after we gave them free reign, they choose to lay together inside an opened crate) planning their strategy to escape their human captors. In fact, they had a couple close successes. Peaches almost made it out of the car last night. Monkey very stealthily tried escaping the hotel room, but failed in his attempt.
Cats, where would you go? It’s below freezing outside, and no one’s gonna feed you when you escape into the wilderness!
To me, these looked like big heaping stinkin piles of cow dung. I could be right…since this was Nebraska.
We made it to the border of Colorado by 7am, thanks to the new time zone. See how everything just got so….white?
We drove towards these mountains for hours. They looked so close…yet were so far away.
Chris: “Candy…you should really take your Dramamine now. You’ll need it.”
Me: “I DON’T need any. I’m fine. I’ll BE fine.”
……..30 minutes go by……..
Me: “Ok, next rest stop I’ll need my Dramamine. DON’T SAY I TOLD YOU SO.”
As soon as we passed Denver, we actually drove right through the mountains. Why didn’t I see this coming?
This picture might’ve shown the highest point we drove that day. I was munchin away on Cheez-its to keep my ears from popping.
Yea….that’s why….
We saw bison along the road. Those are bison….right?
I don’t think I could ever live in a house on a hill like that. I’d walk out of my door, slip and roll downhill for miles.
These runaway truck ramps were for trucks to run up if they lost control going downhill. It was scary to actually see tracks along the snow, meaning they had to be used.
Yesssssss. Chris actually pulled over to a scenic rest stop. Not as nice as the first scenic stop we missed….but I digress.
Doesn’t it look…..cold? It was. Hovered between 25-30 degrees all day. Of course, SOMEONE needed the AC on since the sun was beating down on a certain driver who was sweating profusely, while another certain someone was wearing her winter coat freezing.
This is all really beautiful and all….but how long are we gonna see mountains and snow? By this time, the Dramamine made me so drowsy I was nodding off with my camera in my hands. Every once in awhile, I snapped out of it and took a picture, then fell asleep again.
The topography seemed to flatten out a bit to become less claustrophobic.
“What should we name this town?”
“Uh….I don’t know yet. Just write down ‘No Name’ for now. We’ll get to it later.”
Chris said he could drive behind the truck so I could get a picture of it. But I refused.
Haven’t you ever seen Final Destination 2??? Well, don’t. Ever.
Before we knew it, we were out of snow country.
We made great time and arrived at Grand Junction, Colorado by 2pm. Got flicked off by an angry driver by 2:05pm. This town sure is welcoming! :P
Monkey is looking out of the window of our hotel room. I wonder what he thinks of the view:
Tomorrow – VEGAS! CRAB LEGS!
We might even try the penny slots….but I’m neurotic about losing $1.00. So we’ll see how that goes…

We have been wanting for YEARS to do what you’re doing. Doug has been cross country a few times and appreciates the immensity, but I’ve only been as far west as AR. I want to see those mountains, even though I’d probably have a heart attack with Doug’s driving and would be too scared to drive myself.
Drive behind a logging truck? Oh yeah, I’d be thinking of that movie, too.
You picked the right time to go through CO – looks like a couple of days earlier would have been a little more, er, exciting!
Like that the cats take turns at the observation post. :)
Wow, Colorado is gorgeous! How do you get such great pictures while in a moving vehicle? I always try and fail miserably! The first time I saw a truck emergency ramp I sorta freaked out. LOL
Wow an orange girl cat, that’s rare. Glad the trip is going well.
You guys are making great timing, and i cannot wait for the vegas pics!
Oh, and Candy, tell hubby high five from me about the hay bales, lol. I call them rolos(ya know the candies!), and i am pretty fascinated by them for some reason. I also have tons of pics of them. Whenever we see them in farm country, my hubby just laughs at me for finding them so cute, oh well whatever, lol!
Damn, now i want some rolos, havn’t had those in forever!
beautiful candy!!
