We’ve arrived safe and sound in our new home! Complete with internet! My desktop came in one piece! I can use Photoshop again! No more sleeping on air mattresses or hotel beds!
Life is (almost) back to normal.
But first, let me give you a summary of what our final days were like on the road.
Day 5 – Arizona and Nevada
After Utah, we actually had to hit up a small section of Arizona before driving into Nevada. Who knew?
Arizona is scary. Well, the few miles we drove on it, it was. It seemed like every 2 feet there was a sign on the highway that said ‘Falling rock’. And every part we drove through was covered with rocks. Lots of them.
Before we knew it, we were in Nevada, the crab leg state.
Is this where they make Ranch dressing?! We actually saw another Hidden Valley sign back in Iowa. So we’ll never know…
I think Chris had been getting a little tired of all the photos. I have a few more weird faces he made but I won’t post them.
Featured above: Sausage, leg of lamb, smoked salmon, shrimp ceviche, potsicker, california roll and mac n cheese as my appetizers.
Yes, we basically drove right into a big heaping pile of food. As soon as we dropped our kitties off into our hotel room, we raced towards the nearest crab legs. We had been to the Wynn buffet a few times before, so we figured it was a safe bet again. Plus, they have crab legs every night for dinner, starting at 3:30.
Being the Asian that I am, I dragged Chris to the buffet at 3:00pm to get the lunch items (as well as the lunch prices) then waited around for the turnover to dinner.
Tomato bisque.
Crab legs!!! Glorious crab legs. Oh how I’ve missed thee.
Tip: The line for the crab legs can be quite perilous. Watch out for pushy people with sharp elbows. I thought I was in a mosh pit for a heavy metal concert.
Here was my second plate of crab legs. Notice how it’s smaller than my first plate of crab legs. In between eating those I actually had some seafood pot pie, mussels, and shrimp.
To finish it off, I had two desserts. On the left was a pear and chocolate mousse , and on the right was a chocolate hazelnut cake. Mmmmm mmmm mm.
I would’ve eaten more but my stomach ran out of room.
This was the inside of the buffet.
I liked the attention to detail for all these casinos. I’m not much into gambling, or whatever people do in Vegas. For me, it’s all about the food and architecture.
I need the number for the decorator of this place…
One of my favorite things of the Wynn was the butterfly theme they had going. I want this on the floors of my house one day.
I can dream, right?
And these butterflies on the ceiling.
And these umbrellas over a bar.
And what’s a house without two peacocks lit up with tiny white lights for your entryway?
After I lost my $5 at a slot machine in 5 minutes, we headed over to the Bellagio.
I’m going to assume these glass sculptures were done by Dale Chihuly. If I’m wrong then those 4 years of art school were useless.
Chris called the whole cornicopia/fall harvest theme at the Bellagio ‘creepy’.
I wonder what made him think that?
What’s a trip to Vegas without seeing the lights?
Or the fountains?
That’s all for Vegas! We went to bed at around 8:00pm to get an early start to California. Sorry, no pictures of heavy belligerent drinking or gambling.
Day 6 – California!
I think the cats knew it was our last day of driving. It was the only day they stood up and looked at the windows the entire drive. They weren’t interested before. Why now?
I think they liked the scenery.
As Chris and I were talking, I noticed he paused a lot and cleared his throat. I’d turn around and there would be a cat behind us, listening to our conversation. It was awkward, and rude. We don’t listen to their conversations as they’re plotting against us.
I didn’t appreciate it one bit.
Monkey almost looks like he’s actually driving the car here.
Ok, I’m done with all the cat pictures.
Ooooh, scary.
World’s biggest thermometer. Sadly, it was the ONLY novel thing we saw the entire trip. We missed the world’s biggest ball of stamps a few states back.
There’s no vowels! How do you pronounce this? Z-why-z-ex?
More desert…and mountains….
Somehow, we missed the official sign for California. So we had to use this picture instead :(
Well, I hope you enjoyed taking our road trip with us! Surprisingly it wasn’t too stressful, we saw a lot of things, we ate a lot of things, our cats finally became friends after 4 years, and I now have a collection of weird road signs.
Of course, the stress now begins as we unpack and settle in before Thanksgiving….

I enjoyed the trip. I actually made the same trip a few years ago from Buffalo, NY to Los Angeles, CA. So, I remember seeing those same sites! Oh, and that street name has a “y” in it, which is sometimes considered a vowel. So, I’m sure that helps with the weird pronunciation. :D
Your cats are so cute!!!!
i am sad that your mega road trip is over! these were excellent posts. i hope the crab legs were as good as they look.
It’s prounounced as Ziz-zix.
Memoria – Wow, Buffalo to LA is practically the same route as Rochester to San Diego! Thanks for the pronunciation tip, next time I won’t get so intimidated trying to read a sign :P
Bonnie – I’m sort of sad the road trip is over too…I liked travelling. Now that we’re settled down in this perfect weather, surrounded by palm trees with all these great places to eat, I don’t know what I’m gonna do….But really, the crab legs were totally worth it :)
Angela – How did you know that??? Thanks so much though! It was really bothering me for the longest time.
