As I woke up yesterday morning, I was surprised my back didn’t automatically creak, my joints didn’t hurt as much as they were suppose to, the crows feet didn’t significantly increase overnight, my sun spots weren’t any darker, or any other old person maladies that were suppose to magically appear.
I told Chris I wanted to go back to the Brigantine Seafood Restaurant in Del Mar. It’s a place I already reviewed on a previous post, but I wanted to try their lunch/bar menu, since it wasn’t as pricey and we could try a combination of different tacos as opposed to the one fish taco plate with two sides on their dinner menu.
The image above is the view we got from sitting outside the restaurant.
Oops! Being the pig that I am, I actually inhaled half the shrimp taco before I realized I needed a picture.
I ordered from the bar menu, which isn’t posted on Brigantine’s website. Tacos range from $3.50 – $4.50 each, with a variety of meats or seafood (fish, swordfish, shrimp, chicken, carne asada). I ordered one shrimp taco (as seen half-eaten here) and one chicken taco.
The shrimp taco comes with two fried shrimp, salsa fresca, red cabbage with buttermilk dressing and shredded cheddar cheese.
The chicken taco comes with grilled chicken, avocado slices, pico de gallo and cheddar cheese.
Chris ordered the Brig fish taco plate, which included battered fried pollock in warm corn tortillas topped with cheddar cheese, salsa fresca, red cabbage and cool buttermilk dressing, served with cole slaw and homemade potato chips.
I know, this picture only shows one fish taco.
Here’s the other before Chris finished it off.
As if the red cabbage with buttermilk dressing on the tacos weren’t enough, here is a heaping pile of coleslaw.
I would definitely come here for the bar menu, since my previous experience with dinner wasn’t anything to rave about. The fresh fish and shrimp were the highlight of our meals, and the prices were reasonable enough for lunch.
Driving from Del Mar to La Jolla.
I felt a little bad when my MIL called to wish me a happy birthday and said they had a foot of snow on the ground.
Because we were driving with the sunroof open and it was 71 degrees outside.
So….come visit us soon! :)
We had a giftcard for the Cheesecake Factory, and Chris insisted we pick up a cheesecake for my birthday. The Cheesecake Factory posts calories per slice of cake now, which deterred me from any good cheesecake ever created. Thanks a lot.
When we brought the box of cheesecake home, I noticed that they too, remembered my birthday. 30 Delicious Years. It was a sign, right?
If you pick up a cake from the Cheesecake Factory, and they tell you to defrost at room temperature for one hour before serving, THEY ARE LYING!!!
I defrosted for 2-3 hours and only half an inch of the outer part of the cake was defrosted. The rest of it was hard as a rock.
When I turn 31 I might enjoy it then.
Here’s an obnoxiously large button Chris held onto for me, when he turned 30 YEARS and YEARS ago. I guess he wanted me to share his pain.

HAH! Cute button!!! The tacos look fantastic!! I want some! Wow. Happy birthday again!
