I’m sorry that everyone is freezing their a**es off in 90% of the country. Everyone keeps telling me how cold it is everywhere. And it feels like I’m rubbing it in by posting pictures of sunny blue skies and beaches. I should be make more stews and hearty meals to keep you warm. Less salads and tacos and beach foods. I’ll whip up something warm and hearty tonight. I promise.
Last week on New Years Eve we took a stroll along the beach at Del Mar, trying to remember the name of place we were supposed to try for lunch.
I have yet to see this beach really crowded. This is the most people I’ve seen here, probably because it was a holiday. Maybe it gets more crowded during the summer months.
I don’t know why, but I really liked this photo.
And this one.
After walking along Camino Del Mar we finally found the place. Board & Brew is a small sub/sandwich shop serving hungry surfers. And myself. We actually didn’t remember the name of the shop until we walked by a big crowd of people waiting in line. That was when we knew it was the place we were looking for.
We ordered the Turkado sandwich: turkey, jack cheese, avocado, tomato, onions and lettuce slathered with mayo and served on a deliciously fresh sourdough bread. I don’t know what it was, but something made this sandwich DELICIOUS. You would think sandwiches were just sandwiches….but some sandwiches are just better than others. Maybe it was the avocado and mayo combination. Or the sourdough bread. I don’t know. I’m never going to Subway again.
We also ordered the Turkey Club: turkey, bacon, Swiss, lettuce and tomato on a French baguette slathered with mayo. Pretty damn good. I’m definitely never going to Subway again.
Some close-ups of the Turkey Club.
More close-ups of the definition of pure deliciousness.
If I had to choose between the two sandwiches it’d be a tough call. The turkey club has bacon, and bacon makes everything bacony good. But ultimately…I would have to go with the Turkado. Something about the combination of flavors in between the soft and chewy sourdough bread had me craving it ever since.
The Board & Brew has two locations, one in Del Mar and one in Carlsbad. Here is their website:

yeah, the most terrible thing could happen to you, but you’ll most likely get the response, “well, at least you get to be in that warm weather!” Just kidding…..kinda, lol ;)
BTW, I’m always hungry after reading your blogs, hahahaha :D
Neighbor – Sure, your apartment and belongings burned down to the ground but at least it’s warm outside when you’re homeless! Also when I post my facebook statuses saying ‘going to the zoo’ or ‘going to the beach’ I get a lot of smarta$$ comments. Because everyone else is saying ‘I hate snow’ or ‘It’s too cold outside!’ I feel bad now :P
lovely photos,
lovely foods,
#1 quality,
#1 tastes!
Way to go, Happy 2010.
I actually love the cold weather and have been thinking about taking a road trip to any state with snow! I’m not looking forward to the warm weather season, which has been threatening to come back too soon since I live in Texas.
Anyway, those sandwiches look fantastic. That close up on the turkey sandwich is killing me! YUM!!!
*sigh I wish I lived where it was warm. But then I found comfort today in a churrasco sandwich with thinly sliced steak, avocado, tomato and salsa that reminds me in a weird way of kimchi. That’s why it’s so awesome.
Jingle – thanks for the comment!
Memoria – Sometimes I want to say that I miss the snow…but its too soon. Texas gets really hot doesn’t it? Not as temperate as the coast I would assume…
Hummingbird – I’ve never heard of churrasco, but it sounds so good. Now I’m craving kimchi, even tho I already had it this week, hehe.
yummmy……. thanks for your tips i’d love to follow u.anyway happy new year ~~~~~~~~
