As I was attempting to post this an hour ago, my computer crashed and I had to start all over again. Ugh.

Yun Zi, the San Diego Zoo’s newest baby panda made his debut this morning to the public. San Diego is panda crazy. Crowds of people line up to get a glimpse of them, and since I’m new to the zoo, I don’t know if the lines are always that long, or especially longer for the baby. Either way it was no more than a 10 minute wait to see a cuddly wuddly bear that could swipe you with their paw and injure you. Fatally.

The photo above was the only shot of the baby panda I could get. He was sleeping. Go figure.

No matter how cute they are…don’t let your kids climb up to the edge and shake branches to get an animal’s attention. Just a tip.

At least Mama bear was active…eating bamboo.

If you wonder what the baby looks like….it’s a miniature version of the mama bear. So mama bear…but smaller.

I got pretty lucky with this shot of two hungry tigers posing side by side…glaring at me….

  1. Candy, Hi! It’s been awhile since i’ve been able to visit your blog, but wow, you never fail in the entertaining department! You know, your photography skills have been turned up a notch since moving to San Diego. I’m sure the beautiful landscapes and everything else helps too, right?

So i guess it is safe to say, you are loving the west coast, lol.
    Happy New Year, hon :)

  2. Hi Joan!
Thank you for the compliment! I think the change of scenery has inspired me to take the photos up a notch, thank you for noticing. All this natural light every day makes it so much easier to shoot now. Well, except for my kitchen, which is dark as night all day, hehe. Happy New Years to you as well!

  3. I agree about your photos. They look fantastic! Beautiful! I love the photo of the peacock and the gorilla. Awesome job.

  4. The tiger’s face reminds me a little bit of Peaches… which in turn reminds me that you haven’t posted any cat photos recently. Peaches and Monkey must be offended!

  5. Thanks so much Memoria!

Chiara – Peaches accidentally left a piece of poo on the floor coming out of the litter box. She desperately tried to paw the little piece of poo back into the box, but it did not go back into the box, as she doesn’t have opposoble thumbs. After 5+ minutes of utter distress and frustration, she looks at me, the piece of poo, the litter box, me again, the piece of poo, the box, etc. I wish I took a picture of her distraught little furry face.

I hope no one lost their appetite reading this…

  6. Yes, VERY gorgeous pictures as usual-my husband was impressed as well! It’s nice that you were able to see so many animals (for some reason we hardly saw any the last time we went)! BTW, those tigers were probably just waitin’ for you to cook something yummy up ;)

  7. Hey Candy, Good shot of the lions i like the chimps but the watermark in the middle of the panda photos? Such good photography totally distracted
    :(

  8. Neighbor – I think the tigers were waiting for someone to eat…hehe…

Happyface – I debated putting the watermark on the bottom right corner vs. the center for the pandas, but for some dumb reason I decided to center it. Honestly, I was tired of having to talk to ppl about taking photos and taking the watermarks off of them, especially if I submit these for sale. So…that’s my explanation. But I do feel bad if you don’t get to enjoy them, and I’ll hafta figure out how to solve this dilemma.

  9. I do understand candy its a baad world out there i just really like ur photography so i was a bit bummed but ile get over it :) just dont stop snapping!! xx
