Yesterday we went to the Avocado Festival held in Fallbrook, CA. Since it was labeled an Avocado Fest, I figured there would be at least 50% avocado related vendors, but there were actually like 25%. Aside from that it looked like a pretty regular, standard festival with your standard fried dough, hamburger, hot dog, taco, and Thai Chicken Teriyaki skewer vendors (?!?)
There were great deals for avocados. $5 for 25 avocados! That deal is better than the 2 for $1 I get at my grocery store. We’ll be making a lot of guacamole in the days to come.
We didn’t think there were actually 25 avocados in a bag, but when we got home and opened it, there were.
Bacon wrapped hot dog with guacamole, peppers and onions. I wished the put a little more guac on this. It satisfied my hot dog craving more than my guac craving.
Avocado ice cream topped with walnuts from the Coldstone vendor. I think this was the best tasting treat we had at the festival. Once the sun melted and softened the ice cream a bit, you could taste the slightly sweet, rich, smooth avocado flavor.
Holy Guaca Moly had 4 booths serving guacamole and chips along the festival. Since they were the winner of all the major guacamole awards, according to the newspaper, they were the big thing to try that day. So we forked over our $7 (!!!) for some guac and chips, to see what the fuss was all about.
The guacamole was creamy and fresh. I can see why people like it so much. No offense to Holy Guaca Moly, but I still don’t think it compares to my husband’s guacamole, which has more kick with the lime juice. The lime juice brings out all the flavors so nicely. I didn’t see any other vendors selling guacamole, and that seemed weird to me. I think we may have to start our own booth at the festival next year.

I could roll around in guacamole I love it so much. I am in shock at the bag of avocados!! They’re $1.50 each on a good day here.
Give me the bacon-wrapped hot dog, and no one gets hurt! haha Yum!
April – They’re 2 for $1 on a good day here. The 25 we got were a mixed bag of medium to small avocados. So rather than using 3 for avocado we used maybe 6-9?
Memoria – The bacon kept the hot dog juicy…it was definitely good. :)
I completely agree on the lack of avocado-related things, for a festival that is advertising as such. We drove from far away (including getting lost due to lack of signage) and were VERY disappointed. It was basically a standard fair with a few guacamole stands (all the same vendor by the way – some sort of strange monopoly with very expensive guac). It was super-crowded (narrow layout rather than sprawling out) and mostly all I saw were vendors selling things like memberships and screen-doors. Not even very many independent swap-meet style vendors. I think I even saw a Costco membership booth! Huge let-down and I will not go back again.
