TV Food - I have another puke story that's even better. Maybe I should write it up today. Sad that this is what's become of a food blog.

Sheila - Why do toddlers run for the nearest toilet after having a cell phone in their hands? I hope you and your toddler (and new baby?!) are doing well!

Its just not fair! You can't win! You're supposed to have good, supportive shoes to be able to chase these little suckers so that they 1) don't run into on coming traffic 2) don't run up the playground and leap off the tallest level into a pole 3) don't steal your cellphone and run for the nearest toilet with the lid open.
But good quality supportive shoes cost some bucks.

I hope you can find some really nice duct tape. :-)

Sometimes in writing class, an instructor will point out one of your sentences and say, "Right there is where you story started." For you I think it would be, "right in the middle of the aisle showcasing dining room tables, she puked."

I laughed out lout in the coffee house. People looked at me. The guy behind the counter asked me if everything was ok. I laughed some more, silently congratulated myself on not having children, and momentarily felt very badly for you and your baby.

But it was still pretty damn funny.

Great overview. It is concise and to the point and I appreciate that. I do have one curiosity question, so I am not further confused: In the section with the "Flowers with Two Different Settings," are the photos reversed?

I'm trying to figure out how many Weight Watcher's points one serving of your chicken salad with grapes and walnuts is. Do you have that information? Or maybe the nutritional info and I can figure out the points myself?
Thanks!

Actually after you have them dredged and "ready to fry" you should be able to put them in the freezer for later. Just lay them out in a single layer on a cookie sheet or something flat and put in freezer till solid then you can store in a zippy bag. Or you can do like some with french fries and cook about half the time then take them out of the oil, drain and freeze, again like above in a single layer till frozen and store in a zippy bag. Or you can totally cook them, freeze them and see how it works if you put them in a really hot oven (or toaster oven) to crisp them up and heat through. Not really happy with any microwave heating of breaded items myself.
My favorite food science chef on Food Network used this technique (the double frying) for thick cut fries and it works great.

I live west of Atl, so everything is a drive for me (Canton House is a 1 hour drive)...but I don't mind doing it every once in awhile.

For K-barb, I have not had the experience of eating it in Cali yet - so I can only tell you my opinion from the ones I've been to in Atl. If it is anything like the difference between Dim Sum in San Jose and Atl, woe is me - but hey - ignorance is bliss.

Of the ones I've tried - Hae Woon Dae on Buford; and Seo Ra Beol, Honey Pig and Iron Age, all in Duluth, I would say Seo Ra Beol is my favorite. Seo has a lot of variety on the menu, and their meats are good quality. I LOVE their gal bi gui (don't know if I spelled that right), but its their short ribs. They are marinated and tender and yummy. I could go on and on about Seo...everything I've ever had there has been good and I never leave smelling like a bbq pit because they have good ventilation.

Honey Pig and Iron Age are good too; the pork belly at Iron Age has been good when I got it - they usually get it really crispy which is what I like. I heard that Hae Woon Dae used to be THE place to go for K-barb, but when I went it was just so-so. There are many, many others in Atl that I have not yet tried, so if you've found one that you like, please let me know!

There are lots of good Thai restaurants in Atl: my favs are 1. Tuk Tuk in Buckhead (nice date-night place), 2. Tamarind in Midtown, and 3. Panita in Virginia Highlands. All 3 are excellent in my opinion.

Nice talking with you!

Trina - I can't find any dim sum in ATL that compares to NYC or san jose either. After eating dim sum in ATL I always find myself saying, 'it's ok for Atlanta standards'. The best we found is also Canton House, for their dim sum and their dinners. I felt bad when the manager asked where we were from and we said, New York, and he apologized beforehand saying their food can't compare to our standards, haha (the service definitely is better than most NY restaurants, though). Second would have to be a tie between Royal China and Pearl Seafood. I haven't done any reviews but I should bring my camera and do a few. But I can say that ATL dim sum does trump San Diego's.

Do you recommend any Korean BBQ joints here? We haven't been to any yet.

Since we live 30+miles from buford hwy, we sometimes go to Penang for quick fixes of asian food. They serve malaysian, thai and chinese food, and tastes pretty close to authentic. They give us great service too.

Thanks, Candy! I started reading your blog with the latest post, and have worked my way back...right now I am at Dec 15, 2009. I've enjoyed your blogging style, your recipes and your honesty.

I've noticed all the restaurant reviews from when you used to live in Cali, but my question now is, have you visited the dim sum restaurants in Ga since moving here, and if so, do you like one more than the other?

I have family in Cali and from visiting there and eating the dim sum in San Jose, I have not found a restaurant in Atl that can compare, but Canton House on Buford Hwy is the best I've found so far. I would love to hear your opinion though.

I have your blog feed saved in my RSS feed now, so I look forward to reading your posts going forward now!
